From 10-11th May in Latvian city Saldus was held Latvian Youth Teams Championships (U-14, U-17) and Saldus championship where happen scramble for the best seats in snatch and C&J apart.
In age group under fourteen in team classing first place take members of the household - Saldus with 1422,73 points by Sinclair, second place take Ludza - 1192,29 points, third place Dobele - 942,52 points.
In U-17 first place Daugavpils I with 2168,00 points, second place take Balvi - 1745,00 points and third place Ludza - 1531,15 points.

On 13th of October in Estonian
city Moisakula was held Arnold Luhaaare [Olympic
medalist] Memorial (under 17 years of age). Five clubs
from Estonia, two from Lithuania and one from Latvia
(Saldus Sport School) participated.
Best results (by Sinclair
table) among boys were achieved by Kert Ustav
(Vargamae), Ivars Vēza and Kristiāns Andžāns (both
Saldus), among girls best result was achieved by Erika
Račkauskaite (Telšiai).

On 31st March 60 athletes from
Latvia (Saldus, Dobele, Daugavpils) and Lithuania
(Telšiai and Kaunas) competed in Saldus where the open
championships of the city was held.
In 56 and 62 kg bodyweight
categories weightlifters fought for cups of Jānis
Andžāns which were won by Leonīds Perminovs un
Vitālijs Matvejevs (both from Daugavpils). The cups were
devoted to the 25 years anniversary since Jānis Andžāns
works as weightlifting coach. For more information see

On 11th March of this year passed away former president (1997-1999) and secretary
general of the Latvian Weightlifting Federation, Latvian Champion
in heavyweight (1964), Associated professor
of University of Latvia, dr.hab.oec.
Visvaldis Briedis.
Between weightlifters he
will always stay in memory as competent, active and
unselfish president of the federation as well as joyful

On 30th September in Saldus was held the annual international tournament "Saldus - 2006" in which 72 weightlifters from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia participated. Latvia was represented with 3 teams, Lithuania with 4 and Estonia with 3. 3 titles were won by Saldus lifters and 3 lifters from Dobele. For more info see the results.

In the last weekend of July Saldus
city 150 years anniversary international
tournament was held, in which competed Saldus' weightlifters and one weightlifter from Sweden.
The only one and the best woman was Eva Andžāne with 197,09 Sinclair points, but the best man lifter was John Soderholm from Sweden with 384.74 Sinclair points. For detailed information see competition protocol and photo gallery below.

Last weekend in Swedish city
Falun was held the Final competition of Swedish
weightlifting league, in which I became Swedish team
champion in my last competition!

AK claimed gold in
front of Spårvägens TLK,
Klippans KK and Allmänna SK.
Yet again I failed to reach new
personal bests my bodyweight was 80.00 kg and I lifted
127.0+158.0 kg and similar to previous competition I
slightly failed to lift 134.0 kg in snatch and 163.0 kg
in c&jerk. I collected 348.96 Sinclair points.

Turnier um den Salzburger Stier
Last
weekend in Austrian city Bürmoos was held the
annual weightlifting tournament "Turnier um den
Salzburger Stier", in which also three Latvians
competed: my brother Kristiāns and two more boys from
Saldus - Ivars Vēza and Ritvars Grēbers.
My brother
Kristiāns (43.50 kg) was best between shoolars with
52.5+62.5 kg and 224.99 Sinclair points. Ivars
Vēza un Ritvars Grēbers were third placed - first of
them (41.20 kg) was third behind Kristiāns with
40.0+50.0 kg and 186.0 Sinclairs but the last one
(55.10) was third between youth - 70.0+75.0 kg
and 228.98 points.

I would
like to congratulate my Belgian friend - great
weightlifter Tom
Goegebuer - on his superb competition at World
Weightlifting Championships in Doha - 8th
place overall in
men's 62 kg category (123.0+149.0 kg)!
Now he has
made a major step to correct a injustice of not being
allowed to pretend to compete at Olympics.
His 8th
place should give him a place in Belgian Olympic
A-team!
